Recently, the results of the 2019 America University Students Mathematical Contest in Modeling were announced. Our students won three international second awards in the contest, and the modeling results achieved another great record.
The reason why this contest achieved excellent results is inseparable from the school's emphasis on undergraduate teaching and the importance of cultivating students' innovative and practical ability. The Academic Affairs Office, Students Affair Office, and related departments have given great support from various aspects. In order to make full use of the advantages of mathematics disciplines and rely on the team of mathematical modeling teachers,Department of Fundamental Courses Teaching, as the organizer of a modeling contest, has done a lot of preliminary work in the selection, training, and participation of the competition, laying a good foundation for achieving excellent results this time,whichreflects the continuous improvement of the undergraduates' innovative thinking ability in our school in recent years.
The America University Students Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM / ICM) is sponsored by the Consortium for Mathematics and Its Application, whichis the only international and the most influential mathematical modeling contest in the world. The content of the contest covers many fields such as economy, management, environment, resources, ecology, medicine, safety, future technology and so on, it requires a group of three to complete all tasks from model building, solving, verification to writing an English paper within four days, which not only exercises students’ ability to analyze and solve problems, but also improves students’ English writing, it also enhances the teamwork ability of students at the same time, broadens the students international perspective, and greatly promotes the employment, postgraduate, study abroad, research, etc. of the award-winning students. A total of 25,370 teams from nearly 20 countries and regions including China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia participated in this contest.
